Lulu was given Usborne's "1000 Things to Make and Do" as a birthday present this year. Unlike so many books of this kind, this one has amazing projects in it that use materials that most people already have in their homes. I LOVE this book.
Today's Tissue Birds are a project that I found in the book, using things that I already had at home and the girls absolutely loved it!
Tissue Birds with Eggs and Nest
First we painted some paper towels. MR decided to use a lovely bright blue.
Here are the girls, hard at work!
We noticed that after painting the towels, we were able to use the paint left on the table to make a mottled print on a clean piece of paper.
I thought that this could possibly be used to make eggs. The girls just thought it was cool!
After waiting for the paper towels to dry, we ripped them into pieces being sure to keep one larger piece for the head. We then glued on the 'feathers".

A gorgeous multi-colored bird by PE.
MR's beautiful bird looks like it's in mid flight.
Today PE and I collected sticks on the way back from school and used them to make nests for our birds. First we made a simple background by rubbing chunky crayons on their sides. Then we glued on strips of painted paper and strips of newspaper to build our nests, afterwards we added the sticks and speckled eggs. PE's bird is sitting on a nest full of 3 beautiful (well hidden) mottled eggs!
I had to add this because it makes me smile. 2 'happy eggs' by PE.
